Jeraco, the virtual nation.
2/03/2021 - Over the past few years Jeraco has moved it’s land claim multiple times. These moves were brought about by political quarrels, the movements of the first family, and other technicalities. The Republic of Jeraco could currently be considered to be an online micronation, as no land is currently available for claim. However, there are plans to make a new claim that would have a more significant meaning to our country. More to come.

Power Outage Strikes Nation; Should Jeraco Break Away From Australia’s Grid?
17/02/2020
A week long power outage has crippled Jeraco’s communication and technological systems. The outage was caused by a severe rainstorm that lasted two days. Some Australian media outlets likened the storm to a cyclone, as power was cut to over 100,000 homes on the Central Coast region in NSW.
Without power, Jeraco’s Government was unable to communicate with other nations, water crops, or update it’s website with vital updates. It is the worst outage to ever strike the nation, and has many citizens asking the same question, “Should Jeraco break-away from Australia’s power grid?”
At present, Jeraco draws it’s electricity from Australia’s grid, and, intern, pay’s Australia a monthly bill. This hasn’t been the first time an independent power system has been proposed or tested. Back in early 2016, Jeraco attempted to use a small-portable solar phone charger to charge phones and Ipads within the nation. This was eventually abandoned as the solar charger took too long to charge the devices and was deemed too inefficient to continue use. But, perhaps, a larger, more efficient solar panel or solar array would work better and be much more useful. Not to mention the environmental benafits of a solar powered nation.
The Government has not yet commented on this, but we will keep you updated if there is any developments.

The territory is located Northwest of Jeraco's Capital, and, this new title pays homage to Canada's 'Northwest Territories,' the country in which where Jeraco originated.
Jeraco Day 2018! - The Nation Celebrates its Fourth Anniversary!
15/11/2018
Happy birthday The Republic of Jeraco! Today, the nation turns four years old! The President has issued a statement for this special occasion, it is displayed below:
“The Republic of Jeraco, a nation bound by curiosity and creativity.” – The Republic of Jeraco’s Constitution.
Four years ago, I had an idea. An idea formed from, and inspired by an a simple concept. A concept that, although on the surface appears conceivably silly, underneath, a concept that has become something that I truly value and enjoy partaking in.
As a kid, I always had an interest in how the world worked. Continually being fascinated by politics and how legislation and policy shaped and influenced the world we live in. It was an area that intrigued me, something I wanted to be a part of. However, politics today is synonymous with scandal, and plagued by power hungry politicians who really do not rule in the publics favour. And for these reasons, It was not something that I wanted to journey further into…
However, four years ago to the date, I thought, “Hey, why don’t I just create my own country instead, that would be a fun little project, eh?”
Little did I know at the time, but that ‘little country’ would become a project that, today, I am immensely proud of. A project that I would begin, and a project that would become a lifelong endeavour. The Republic of Jeraco has transformed the way I view the world, it has enabled me to not take everything ‘as is,’ to strive to try and see the world from another perspective, and in that I am immensely grateful.
I present the following quote to you: ‘If you want something done right, then do it yourself.’ I think, that perhaps on a fundamental level, this is why all micronations are created. It certainly is what the Republic of Jeraco is based on, to be different, and to do some good in the world!
Four years ago I was fed-up with the worlds current political climate, I was inquisitive and curious, ‘how far could I really take this, to create my own nation?” And, I decided that life should always be lived with imagination, creativity, and inventiveness! A nation, and a life, bound by curiosity and creativity.
Thank you to all who have supported the Republic of Jeraco over these past four years, here’s hoping to another fantastic four!
-President Nichols

Tobacco Products Banned! - New Law Enforced
12/09/2018
Almost a year to the date, The Government swore in the ‘Cannabis Act 2017’. This controversial Act enabled for the distribution of Cannabis in Jeraco, which could be, “…consumed, and grown, for medicinal and recreational uses in Jeraco.” Today, however, it appears The Government has taken a different stance towards a different drug. The ‘Tobacco Act 2018’ bans the, “…sale, distribution, or use of any tobacco product…” within the Republic. The Act states that this new law has been passed to protect Jeraco’s Environment and Jeraco’s citizens’ health. Tobacco is a known carcinogen, which can cause cancer and other health problems. We are also speculating that this may be an early attempt to prevent any potential fires as Jeraco’s summer season quickly approaches.
This Act will be enforced from the 13/09/2018.
Constitutional Changes
19/06/2018
Once again Jeraco has altered it constitution, this is the 17th alteration since its creation in 2014. The document itself has been altered once more. A few of the clauses have been changed which has made it to be more easily read and understood.
Read the Constitution Here.
Plastic Bags Banned From Nation
6/02/2018
In mid-2017, the Polyethylene Act 2017 was sworn in as law in Jeraco. The act, "...bans disposable plastic shopping bags to be used, or brought into Jeraco. With exception to: recycling for environmentally beneficial purposes. Starting next week, on 10/02/2018, this piece of Jeraconion legislation will become the first law to be enforced in Jeraco. Citizens who reside in J.C.T. whom are caught breaking this law will be forced to pay ten Jeraconion Zents (equal to five Australian dollars).
This law was created to protect Jeraco's environment from the potentially dangerous effects plastic bags have on the environment.
Citizens have been given four days to rid of any disposable plastic bags before the law takes effect.
Kingdom of Havena - Treaties Signed
12/01/2018
After claiming Australian land in mid-2015, the Republic of Jeraco became the only known, active micronation to reside on the Central Coast.
However, on the 30th of December 2017, the newly formed Royal Kingdom of Havena reached out to our nation. The Royal Kingdom of Havena was created on 29th of December 2017. It is also located on the Central Coast, and consists of two defined territories: The Kingdom of Havena, and the puppet state of Hawksbury. ...The nation spreads across 1,650 km2 of previously Australian owned territory. Over 200,000 citizens reside in the nation, which extends from Lake Macquarie to Pearl Beach.
During Havena’s creation, unknown at the time by its creator, the Republic of Jeraco temporarily was engulphed by Havena, and resided in its borders. This mistake was promptly realised, Havena altered its borders to ensure our two nations remained separate. Further, a buffer zone was added to ensure the two nations, if need be, could expand in the future.
This is a pinnacle moment in Jeraco’s history. Putting the border fiasco aside, Jeraco has opened relations with the Holy Kingdom of Havena, and hopes to soon produce recognition treaties between the two nations in the coming weeks. The Republic of Jeraco extends a welcoming hand towards the Holy Kingdom of Havena. Jeraco recognises the sovereignty of the Holy Kingdom of Havena, and will be at the nations side if or when the need arises.
'A Current Currency'
17/12/2017
In late 2015 Jeraco’s economy was at an all-time low. Simply, there wasn’t one. There comes a time, for every micronation, when its government realises the importance of a strong economic presence. At the very basis of every economy, there must be a currency of some sort. There are many types of currencies around the world. Some people trade goods, some use seashells, bottlecaps, bitcoin or even a currency called ‘Dogecoin’ (look it up!) The Jeraconion Government decided that the classic paper bill best suited our soon-to-be national currency.
The name ‘Zent’ derives from the English word, ‘Cent’. Except, the C has been replaced with a Z. There is no particular reason for this alteration rather than it sounds, “more cool.” The Zent is not equal in value to one cent.
The Zents first design was rather simple. It consisted of the Jeraconion flag, with whatever the bill was worth overlayed on top of it. The design had many flaws, most notably; it was very easy to reproduce illegally. However, this design remained as Jeraco’s currency for over a year, it was introduced on January 2nd 2016, and was removed on June 9th 2017.
The Zents second design was immensely more complex than its predecessor. This new bill was a myriad of patterns, stripes and numbers. There were five amounts, a one, five, ten, fifty and one-hundred Zent bills. Three of the bills displayed one of Jeraco’s territories or states and their corresponding flags. The one zent bill showed the Eco State, the five zent bill displayed Jeraco Capital Territory (J.C.T.), and the ten zent bill showed the Island State.
However, the new design had its own set of problems, mainly, the printing process produced the bills to be blurry and difficult to read.
On October 15th 2017, The Government created the final, and permanent design of the Zent. This design turns Jeracos currency into an easily recognisable one, that clearly displays which country it represents. The new currency can be seem on our Instagram page. It entered circulation on December 1st 2017.
Treaties of Recognition
28/09/2017
In an effort to continue Jeraco's presence in the micronational community, The Government has begun to respond to recognition treaties that were proposed by other micronations to Jeraco. These treaties recognize that two micronations acknowledge each others existence.
Marriage Equality
18/08/2017
Australia, the country that encompasses Jeraco, has been having a hard time defining the term 'marriage' recently. Jeraco has taken the liberty to define the term in the Marriage Act 2017 for our Australian neighbours. This latest act defines marriage as: " ...the union of a man and a man, a woman and a woman or a man and a women, entered into for life."
This enables same-sex couples to be legally married in Jeraco.
Identifying our Nation
18/08/2017
In early May, Jeraconion citizens asked if there was a way for them to identify themselves as citizens. This was answered by supplying small badges with Jeraco's symbol printed on them. They were an instant success! These badges gave citizens the ability to show they were apart of Jeraco and were proud of it. However, this wasn't suitable for identifying citizens. It was unreliable as anyone could easily acquire a badge. The Government seeked to find a better system to identify citizens, something that was simple to understand and easy to distribute.
SOCI (system of citizen identification) was created. SOCI is a new system the Government will be trialling in early September. This identification system sees the distribution of CIC's (Citizen Identification Cards.) CIC's are for Jeraconions, they identify them as citizens.
The program is in the early stages of development, the Government will release more on SOCI as the release date grows nearer.
The Nations New Website!
28/07/2017
For years Jeraco has been an active, online Facebook community. After all, our first citizens met each other in a messenger chat. Today, however, Government publishes Jeraco's official website. An area where documents, events and nation-information can be found.
Many micronations around the world operate websites, The Government agreed it was time to add Jeraco to these 'tech-savy' nations. Many micronations prefer not to use websites as their platform, and stick to having Facebook groups and chats.
This website will be posting regular posts, so stay tuned!
